Dr Paul Howden retires after 25 years
Dr Paul Howden, who predominately worked at our Whiteley practice, retired on Monday 31 March.

Dr Howden qualified from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, London in 1990. Following this he served a short career commission as a Medical Officer in the Royal Navy with time spent at sea and more locally at Royal Hospital Haslar and HMS Collingwood, whilst also completing his GP training in Gibraltar.
Dr Howden has been a partner and based at our Whiteley surgery since July 1999, whilst also working part-time in a Clinical Lead role for the Hampshire and IOW Integrated Care Board, having previously been Deputy Chair of Fareham & Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group.
“For more than 25 years it’s been my privilege and pleasure to work in Whiteley as a GP Partner. Over that time much has changed structurally, from humble beginnings in a Portakabin to the move into the purpose-built facility in December 2006, through to greater collaborative working and eventual merger with two neighbouring practices to form Meon Health Practice in 2021 (via a Covid pandemic).
Many colleagues have come and gone over this time frame from my first days in Locks Road in 1999 as a former Royal Navy Medical Officer, but over the years we have continued to maintain and develop a team that is now much more diverse with the inclusion of experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Paramedics, MSK Practitioners, Social Prescribers and Health Coaches working alongside the GPs.
As I reflect back on my time in the practice I feel able to move on to my next chapter secure in the knowledge that I leave behind a fantastic and dedicated team of over 140 clinicians and support staff who remain committed to continue on with the delivery of the best possible care to the patient population of Meon Health Practice.
Thank you for the opportunity to have been able to serve and support you, and I leave you all in the very safe hands of my colleagues.”
With best wishes, Dr Paul Howden
